2018 marks the eighth year we’ve produced videos for the North Bay Leadership Council highlighting select organizations and individuals who best exemplify what it means to be a leader in the North Bay region, north of San Francisco. Five new recipients were honored this year. Here are their videos:
After the October 2017 fires devastated many areas in Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino counties, Senator Mike McGuire, The Press Democrat, and Redwood Credit Union combined forces to aid every survivor of the fires. The North Bay Fire Relief Fund (NBFRF) was created by the Redwood Credit Union Community Fund, a nonprofit 501c3, along with the partnership, to assist with immediate needs of fire survivors. This video pays tribute to their vision and hard work, and is in honor of being awarded the 2018 “United We Stand: Community Building” Award.
The 2018 “From Red Tape to Red Carpet” awardee is the City of Santa Rosa Planning and Economic Development Department who were in the final stages of overhauling the department to make it more responsive to the needs of its clients, when the disastrous fires hit in the fall of 2017.
As Director of the Center for Environmental Inquiry (CEI) at Sonoma State University (SSU), Dr. Claudia Luke is a distinguished community leader in environmental education and stewardship. Dr. Luke has built more than 50 long term partnerships with local K-12 school districts, city leaders, county agencies, corporations and local environmental groups to work together to solve the environmental challenges being faced by the North Bay in the areas of watershed management, habitat connectivity, habitat restoration, and environmental education. This video is in tribute to her work and to honor her selection as recipient of the 2018 “Paint the Community Green” award.
10,000 Degrees is a leading college success nonprofit in California, helping North Bay students from low-income backgrounds get to and through college. With a specific focus on community building and empowering underserved student populations, the 10,000 Degrees Fellows help actualize personal and professional dreams and, in doing so, become powerful catalysts in transforming their own communities from the inside out. This video is in tribute to their success, and in honor of being selected to receive the 2018 “Empowering the Latino Community” Award.
Susan Gilmore is widely recognized as a leader in early care and education and well known in our school communities for establishing proven ECE programs that focus on school-readiness, and foster health and wellness for families across the income spectrum. Gilmore’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion inspires those around her and encourages collaboration toward system change. She is actively involved on committees for both Marin and Sonoma Counties on establishing strategies that support early education investments. This video pays tribute to her work and receiving “The Light Bulb Went On” Award for Innovative/Entrepreneurial Spirit for 2018.
